Toys for Children Report

Entrance to Meeting Room with Flags

This Wednesday morning a few of our members met at the Melville Woodturners meeting room, to join them in handing over to their charities, an amazing number of toys, including 27 pencil cases and 28 chalkboards, together with trucks, trains, planes and crocodiles that we had donated.

These were laid out on four large tables so that everyone could see what had been made and appreciate the variety and craftsmanship that was on display.

Melville Woodturners convener, Frank Dymond welcomed everyone and invited Katy Mair, Melville’s mayor to speak who was then followed by Kim Gibbens, WA member for Bateman and Sam Lin MP, member for Tangney, and the charities who were very appreciative of everything that had been made.

The charities involved were : SilverChain, MercyCare, Parkerville, and Swanslea

We then had the opportunity to socialise with those that attended and enjoy a cup of tea and a mince pie.

On behalf of the committee, I would like to say special thank you to all those involved or made toys for the children, especially Melville Woodturner for inviting us to participate, ForestOne, Gilly’s Australia, Fremantle and Manning Men’s sheds  who donated materials, and all those that worked hard to produce the toys, Kevin Luff, Jim O’Neill, Barry Viner, Peter Maschette, Robert Rankin, Allan Waugh, Neil Bennet, Ian Houghton and Chris Oeding together with anyone I have missed.

If we have made a difference to just one child in need this Christmas, then it has all been worthwhile.
