June 2022 General Meeting - Bring out your jigs

-

We should all be using as many Jigs as possible, both to ensure we can repeat something we have constructed, exactly the same each time, but also to make that fabrication quicker and easier every time you make it.

It is amazing how a simple jig can change the way you work and make your life that much easier.

So, we need you all to have a look at what jigs you have around the workshop, and bring them with you to show everyone else, together with a brief chat as to why you like it so much.

It doesn’t have to complicated as it is the simpler ones that get used most, but there are ideas out there that we could all look at and say, “why didn’t I think of that”?

So just bring something along to show us.

Veneers for sale – Bring your Cash!

As discussed last month we will have a wide selection of veneers for sale at very reasonable prices.

Martin has put together a few marquetry packs for anyone who would like to try it, with assorted colours and some including burl veneer for those wanting something dramatic as an inlay.

We also have some complete marquetry kits for sale.

So come and have a look for something that will enhance your next project.

This will be a cash only sale

Out of the woods competition

We will be holding the OOTW competition on the 8th – 9th October 2022 at the Cannington Exhibition Centre.

This will be open to all our members and friends for anything they have built over the last couple of years since the last Wood Show.

There will be the usual range of categories to cover all the different things we make, so if you have not started something you want to include into this prestigious competition, you need to get out into the workshop and get started today!

About the Venue

Melville Wood Turners Hall is in the Kardinya Community Centre, Morris Buzzacott Reserve, Cnr Prescott Drive and Williamson Rd, Kardinya WA 6163

Would anyone arriving early help prepare the venue for the meeting. This will mostly involve setting out chairs but there may be other work that is required. Your assistance is most appreciated and will allow the meeting to start on time.

The venue has its own chairs so that we do not need to bring our own.

Health and Safety

Members and visitors are reminded that the venue for our meeting is a workshop and care should be taken in this environment. The venue has been picked to ensure there is more than sufficient space for everyone to attend and still comply with the current social distancing requirements.

We all have a part to play in keeping ourselves and our community safe and free from COVID-19, it is a reminder that we must keep up the physical distancing, wash our hands with soap and water or sanitizer, and stay home if at all unwell.

It is essential that everyone signs in as they arrive, there are no exceptions! So please make sure you put you name down as requested.
