Upcoming Presentation: Masterclass in Traditional Hand Tools & Japanese-Inspired Marquetry

Tonight’s meeting features two of our experienced makers, David Howlett from the Perth Wood School and Life Member Ian Houghton, sharing their expertise across two very different areas of the craft.

David Howlett: Precision with Hand Tools David will be leading a practical session on the fundamentals of "getting it right" at the bench. He will be demonstrating techniques for achieving greater accuracy when using hand saws, chisels, and hand planes. Whether you are looking to sharpen your skills or pick up a few new tricks for cleaner joinery, David’s session will offer plenty of technical insight.

Ian Houghton: The Journey into Japanese-Inspired Marquetry Life member Ian Houghton will be taking us "down the rabbit hole" as he discusses his latest deep dive into Japanese-inspired marquetry. Ian has been exploring the use of the guillotine to cut delicate veneers and will be sharing the story behind his process. He’ll walk us through his initial goals, the results he achieved, and the inevitable lessons learned along the way.

It promises to be a great night of learning and discussion. We look forward to seeing everyone there!

A few housekeeping notes:
