The Fine Woodwork Association of WA (FWWA) has officially expanded its community presence with the launch of its new YouTube channel.

A mainstay of the Western Australian craft scene for over 40 years, the FWWA is best known for its "Out of the Woods" exhibitions and its dedication to the highest standards of craftsmanship. The move to a video-sharing platform is designed to provide members and the general public with a central archive of woodworking knowledge and local history.

Bridging Tradition and Technology

The channel aims to complement the association’s regular monthly meetings and workshops. By documenting the skills of its veteran makers, the FWWA hopes to ensure that traditional techniques remain available to everyone—from beginners in home garages to professional furniture makers.

Viewers can expect to find a range of content, including:

  • Demonstrations: Practical guides on joinery, finishing, and tool maintenance.

  • Exhibition Walkthroughs: Showcasing the intricate work featured in past and present FWWA displays.

  • Technical Talks: Recordings of guest speakers and masterclasses.

Supporting the Local Making Community

The launch comes at a time when interest in handmade, sustainable timber furniture continues to grow across WA. By moving online, the FWWA is making it easier for regional enthusiasts—who may not be able to attend meetings in Perth—to stay connected with the community.`

"This is about sharing our passion for wood," says the association. "Whether someone is interested in modern power tools or traditional hand-tool methods, the channel serves as a resource to help them improve their craft."

How to Watch

The channel is now live and free to access. You can find it by searching for "fwwa learn create inspire" on YouTube.

For those interested in seeing the work in person, the FWWA continues to host regular meetings and workshops. For more details on membership or upcoming events, visit our website at fwwa.org.au.
