Which Tools are the Best Value?

Jeff Kenny

13 Nov 2023

Monthly Meeting

Our recent session with Jeff Kenny was a real eye-opener for anyone interested in power tools—especially drills! Jeff brought in an impressive lineup of tools that rivalled the display at Bunnings, showcasing nearly every type of drill available today. He walked us through the differences in voltage, weight, and battery size, emphasizing that the biggest and most expensive tool isn’t always the best choice—especially when most of our drilling needs are under 6mm. Jeff highlighted the importance of ergonomics, particularly when working overhead or in tight spaces, and shared some great tips like using the trigger in short bursts for better control and avoiding overheating batteries to extend their life.

We also explored impact drivers, right-angle drills, and even cordless trimmers and mini routers—with Jeff demonstrating how easily the router base could be removed with just a button press. He explained the pros and cons of brushless motors and hammer features, helping us decide what’s truly necessary for our projects. The hands-on experience was a hit, with all the tools available to try out and compare. Jeff even displayed each model and its best price on the big screen, making it easy to spot a few items for the Christmas wish list. A big thanks to Peter for the coffee, tea, and festive slice of Christmas cake that rounded off a fantastic and informative evening.
