April 2026 meeting report

23 Apr 2026

Our recent meeting featured two informative sessions covering hand tool efficiency and the practical application of marquetry.

David Howlett from the Perth Wood School joined us to discuss the effective use of hand tools. David, who has over 30 years of teaching experience, reviewed several common woodworking practices.

Life member Ian presented his recent exploration of marquetry, detailing the processes he has developed for veneering and box construction. Drawing inspiration from quilting and needlework, Ian demonstrated how he adapts these patterns for veneer. A significant portion of the demonstration focused on the evolution of his methods.

Decorative effects workshop was a stunning success

21 Apr 2026

We recently gathered in the heart of the forest near Dwellingup for our latest workshop, and what a productive few days it turned out to be.

Focused on the art of "Decorative Effects," the workshop saw members diving deep into techniques that elevate a piece of timber from a functional object into something truly special. Whether it was experimenting with surface textures, exploring traditional inlay methods, or refining finishing techniques, the focus was entirely on precision, patience, and attention to detail.
